When you find yourself in times of trouble, some people rise to the top.
These people or should I say organisation for me have been the MS Society UK, there is so much information to wade through at the moment around COVID-19, so like many of us now I have shut myself off from the daily updates.
Whether we like it or not things aren’t going to look good for a number of weeks, one of those reasons is we have only just started testing, so the numbers will go up and the other is sadly those that are dying at the moment probably contracted it anything up to 4 weeks ago.
Why the MS Society?
My first experience with the MS Society was very early on in my diagnosis, you can read about this here. However, last year I took part in a wellbeing zoom meeting over four weeks for those who had been newly diagnosed. Click To Tweet
However, last year I took part in a wellbeing zoom meeting over four weeks for those who had been newly diagnosed.
These sessions are 1.5 hours each and cover the topics below:
- Share your experience
- Setting goals
- Self Care
- Learn new skills to help to support you to live well
Prior to the sessions, you will receive reflective materials to look through and guide you through.
Though these sessions are managed to stick to a timetable they create a very relaxed environment for you to share your concerns.
They hold these sessions a few times a year and I know there is one just starting this week, but there are another four sessions planned this year for you to book onto.
Time to Chat
At the beginning of this post I mentioned rising to the top, well for me the MS Society have excelled themselves in this, in the previous post I mentioned about all the friends and even my dentist that has started a Whatsapp group for support but the MS society are really the ones that truly understand what we are going through as MSers.
Time to Chat has been running for a couple of weeks now and it is a zoom meeting hosted by an MS Society staff member and it’s what it says on the tin, there are ten people on at a time which is just the right number for an hour’s chat, no two chats are the same and you all get chance to share how you are feeling. There are few sessions in the Eventbrite calendar but they are open to putting more on if there is a requirement. There are few sessions in the Eventbrite calendar but they are open to putting more on if there is a requirement.
I am trying to attend as many as possible because it breaks my day up and helps to hear what others are going through while sharing ideas of support and advice.
They are also holding various information webinars on different subjects with experts in the relevant field leading.
- Exercise and MS
- Managing anxiety
All of the above can be booked through the MS Society UK Eventbrite Link below.
The above really have all been invaluable to me both in the last few weeks and since diagnosis, it is so fabulous to know you are not alone.
I welcome comments and my email is open via my contact form if I can help or support in any way.
