As an Amazon, prime customer who has brought from Amazon for a number of years is this the end of Amazon reviews?.
Amazon for me isn’t just about buying though, it’s been my go-to to check reviews on items when I have been buying from other sellers, as I do like to search for the best price particularly on more expensive purchases.
However, over the last year, we have seen an increase in sellers asking you to buy items, to bypass the algorithm they will send you a search term for the item, often giving out the page the item is on, you buy the item and send them your review, they then refund you the money via Paypal.
They are selling this to us as influencers, well the inflencers I follow will only recommend a product they would use or wear themselves, so this goes totally against the grain.
It is also against Amazon’s terms and conditions, however, if you follow social media you can not fail to see the regular ads that pop up for free products.
They are even using DM’s in both Instagram and Twitter to just cold message you, I had one only this morning, see above, with a list of products available to me free and as the title says Need Amazon Review.
They predominantly use Facebook messenger, with a click on their ad that leads you there.
What Are Amazon Verified Purchase Reviews?
“Amazon verified purchase reviews are those which are verified by Amazon that the person posting the review actually purchased the product. This helps customers identify if the review is fake or real and discourages sellers to pay to get reviews or sell products at a deep discount to get a positive review. The “Verified Purchase” Badge adds veracity to reviews and builds the trust of customers and also improves the ranking of the sellers as it is also a part of their ranking algorithm”.
These are companies from China who are actually showing you how to beat the ranking algorithm.
Because you purchase through your own Amazon account which shows as a verified purchase and they refund you via Paypal leaving no record of the refund in your Amazon account, so your verified review looks genuine.
As a buyer looking for reviews. It means we are now buying based on a positive review of a product that could be fake in the worst-case scenario and certainly not fit for purpose. Click To Tweet
The majority of these companies only pay you back on a 5* review, so let’s face it you have a piece of rubbish for free you are going to leave a 5* review to get your money back.
It doesn’t end there though
If like me you probably have an Amazon account with prime, I also have Alexa, Audible, Kindle and a Firestick which are all linked to your Amazon account.
Therefore, I suggest you think twice before responding to any of the scrupulous ads, as it is really worth losing your Amazon account for a bit of free tatt from China, I suggest not.
You are also strongly advised to look very closely at not only the standard of the review of a product but a 5* review, I for one won’t touch them now. There is an old saying,"if it looks too good to be true, it probably is." Click To Tweet
